Olympia Express - Shot Mirror Mini, Black - 500080

The mini shot mirror was a difficult purchase as the price is so high for a seemingly simple mirror. It is when you go hands on with this mirror that the cost can be appreciated. Beautifully machined two piece hard anodized body with an excellent mirrored surface. The body halves connect with what appears to be a strong magnet on one section, and steel pin on the other. The angles the sections join at allow the user to pivot the mirrored section for a wide range of viewing angles. I have used this with three different espresso machines and it adapts to each with ease. The mini size lets it go where other mirrors cannot. Its weight and balance keep it solidly in place. Very versatile. I am more satisfied with the mini than with a larger, more expensive mirror, from another well known niche producer. Simply a brilliant product.

The only thing that kept me from giving this mirror 5 starts is the usual ridiculous Olympia price. Fortunately, it also shares the usual Olympia quality, and is a joy to own. Some might find it too small, but the size is the very reason I ponied up the money for it, since there is so little room on the Cremina drip tray. It allows me a clear view of the bottom of my portafilter without bending over -- a real plus since I am tall, old, and don't bend over very well any more. One more note: You might want to invest in a small (mine is 2 oz.) shot cup to better provide an unobstructed view of the bottom of the portafilter.
